Sheikh Mohammed with Darley Flying Start traineesThe vision for Flying Start is challenging and exciting: Committed industry leaders working in existing and emerging thoroughbred markets contributing to the long term success of the industry. Founded in 2003 by Sheikh Mohammed, Darley Flying Start has rapidly developed from a vision into a sophisticated management training programme. Places on the scholarship are sought after by ambitious young people the world over. Graduates of Darley Flying Start are currently employed in Australia, Dubai, USA, Japan, Brazil, UK and Ireland.

His love of the thoroughbred inspired him to develop the Darley Flying Start management training scholarship to provide young people committed to leading the thoroughbred industry an opportunity to learn at the highest level. Trainees complete part of their programme in Dubai, where Sheikh Mohammed's vision, innovation and energy influence every facet of life.

Governance

Darley Flying Start is registered as the “Darley International Student Programme” and is a charitable company limited by guarantee and registered with the Charity Commission as a charity on 12 February 2004. The primary object of the charity, as stated in its governing document, is "to advance standards and knowledge in the management of thoroughbred horses by the establishment of a programme to train and develop students who wish to pursue a senior management level career in the thoroughbred horse business and to award successful students with a qualification recognising their achievement".
