Darley Flying Start Trainees 2007

Darley Flying Start are pleased to announce the names of the trainees that have been selected to begin the two year management training programme on August 13th 2007.

Interviews and assessments took place in Ireland, UK, Australia, USA and Dubai to source the most suitable applicants for this prestigious scholarship. Once again there are trainees representing the major racing and breeding nations of the world, as well as the first ever trainee from the emerging market of the Czech Republic.

The new group will commence their course at the historic Kildangan Stud in Ireland. They will take in the yearling breaking season, yearling sales at Goffs, racing at the Curragh and Leopardstown and complete their first module at University College Dublin Veterinary School. They will then move on to the UK and will be based at Dalham Hall Stud, Newmarket. During the two year programme they will also have bases in Lexington, Kentucky, Dubai and the Hunter Valley, Australia. They will complete modules at the University of Kentucky, University of Sydney the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management. This is the fifth intake of trainees to the programme with the current second years graduating on July 13th 2007.

Second Year Trainees

The second-years have completed their final 4 week work placements which have been fantastic learning experiences for all of them. They have been working on their business plans at the same time which have an end of June deadline. From June 3rd to 6th the group will visit Chantilly and Deauville in France to learn about the French racing and breeding industries. They will return to Kildangan after that to complete their final few weeks of the programme.

First year trainees

The first-years completed their Equine Nutrition module exams in University of Kentucky this month as well as the Steward Accreditation course run by University of Arizona. The beginning of the month saw them attend the Kentucky Derby and Oaks which were fantastic events, made special for them by Street Sense winning the Derby.
